Coteford Infant School

Coteford Infant School and Children’s Centre approached Russell Play to design a play space for the school, the children’s centre and nursery. The final design included water play, sand play, the ‘Coteford Chugger’ train and an entrance play trail.

Russell Play were given the challenge of designing three play spaces for different ages and users. For the nursery we designed a water play area, a road system and a large robinia timber train, which the children named the ‘Coteford Chugger’. The children’s centre needed something a bit different so we designed a space that had a multi-unit and a bespoke decked stage with a hidden sand pit. The school requested a flowing play space from the entrance gate into the school and to achieve this, we installed a bee-hive slide multi-unit, balancing and climbing items and the ‘baggage reclaim’ unit.

Lorriane Dorrington, Children’s Centre Manager said:

"We chose Russell Play to design our play spaces because the designs and equipment fitted with our vision of a dramatic entrance for children and families. We loved the use of natural materials and the colours. The construction phase went very smoothly, with the equipment installed when the school was still open. We are really pleased with the finished play spaces and have had numerous comments on how beautiful it is from parents and the public."
