Polmanter Touring Park Play Area, St.Ives, Cornwall
Polmanter Touring Park asked Russell Play to work on a complete redesign of their outdoor play area for older children. Polmanter was inspired by the Berliner rope play equipment they had seen from Russell Play and they thought this would provide the perfect solution.
Polmanter is a very popular touring park in Cornwall and boasts a good range of quality facilities including a heated outdoor swimming pool, tennis courts, a putting green, games room and two outdoor play areas for younger and older children. The client wanted their investment in the new play area to be of a good standard in terms of quality in design and durability. A striking new play feature would further enhance the park’s appeal to holidaying families.
Initial design discussions revealed the overall concept and requirement and Russell Play were keen to incorporate the clients wishes of good play value balanced with aesthetic appeal. The combination of a Trii unit and a Greenville unit from the Berliner rope play range met all the requirements. Together they provide a dynamic play piece that is suitable for a broad age range. At the same time it serves as a focal point for the designated play space.
Both the Trii and Greenville ranges have modular elements that can be added to provide the perfect range of activities. Children can slide using either the fireman’s pole or the more traditional stainless steel slide. They can climb in the rope net inside the Greenville unit or up the rope ladder of the Trii unit. There is also a balancing activity with the inclusion of a rope net bridging the two units. The play house structure of the units gives smaller children opportunities for imaginative pretend play.
Although the units are of a contemporary design, the natural look of the bamboo and green colours of the play units blend perfectly with the beautiful surrounding Cornish landscape. The equipment had to be very robust and durable against the fairly harsh coastal environment of St. Ives. The steel elements of Trii and Greenville have a very durable finish and are guaranteed against corrosion and structural failure for 30 years.
